Basics of Computer

   Four common functions of computer system are : 

1.  Input
2.  Output
3.  Processing
4.  Storage

    
    Input  

    The Computer receives its data from input devices as raw dat    a which is processed in human readable      form with the help of other PC devices. The primary input devices of computer system are:-

• Keyboard
• Mouse
• Scanner
• Trackball
• Lightpen
• Joystick

Output
The output devices of computer receives data from system and  process the data in human readable form.  Common Output devices are ::

• Printers
• Monitors
• Speakers
• Headphones
• Projectors

Processing
Processing is the function of computer system when the data is received from the memory for further processing.

       

Storage 

    Two storage unit of PC are :-

• Primary Storage Random Access Memory [RAM] is the primary storage unit of computers.
• Secondary Storage Hard Disk Drives and Pen drives are called as secondary Storage unit.

Different Types of Computer

Due to vast improvement in modern technology computer fundamentals has changed rapidly. Computers are categorized in four different types according to their speed, size, capabilities and cost.

Super Computers are the fastest and most expensive compared to all others. They require huge space for their installation.

Mainframe Computer are not as fast as super computer they require huge space for installation they are very expensive also.

Mini Computers are smaller, cheaper and slower compared to super and mainframe computer.

Micro computers are also called as Personal computer [PC]

Advantages of Computers

Nowadays computers are playing a vital role in the development of human society.  Computers are used for making work load for easy, efficient and fast.

Computer Software and Hardware

Software can be described as a collection of programming codes to perform specific task given to them. Computer programmer or Software developer developed these types of software's to derive a specific or special result. Two types of software are :-

 System Software also known as  Operating Systems They are those software which directly interact with the PC. The primary example is   Operating system and device drivers. Like Windows 

Application Software are also called as Customized Software which are developed for personal use or developed for customers to perform some specific task. Like Ms-office , ERP Softwares, Photoshop.
